Monday the skies were back to blue! We strolled into town and had the best breakfast ever at Estel’s by the Sea- the menu board changes regularly but you cannot go wrong with the fry jacks! There is nothing quite like sitting back enjoying your cup of jo as the ocean laps nearby and the world wakes up. After breakfast we walked over to the Water Taxi – the main dock in town in front of Fido’s Courtyard; bought our roundtrip tickets for the 10am ferry- $ 28US per person is not too bad. After a little wait we boarded the ferry and 20 minutes or so later we arrived on Caye Caulker. Ah, this laid back island has not changed at all- “welcome to Caye Caulker- Slow Down” is the motto here. Frank and I took an amble down the “main” street- enjoying all the stunning ocean views, restaurants and people watching. When we got down to the split- we realized that we had forgotten a beach towel! Back in to town we acquired a towel and then back to sit on the dock and enjoy some cocktails in the sun. There is a lively bar at the Split- The Lazy Lizard- a sunny place for shady people 🙂
We sat back and enjoyed the sun and cocktails and surf. There were plenty of people swimming and enjoying the calm waters- a great spot for chilling indeed. After a few hours we decided to take another walk around and hen headed to the ferry and back to San Pedro on the 3:45 ferry. The Ferries are pretty regular so you can really enjoy a nice stay. As we arrived at the covered dock a crazy storm headed through and we would have been soaked had we been outside. The ride back was a little different as we sat down below and not on the top enjoying the view, the below is pretty crowded and smelly.
Back on Ambergris we headed to the hotel and chilled after our difficult day of relaxing. For dinner we tried out Wild Mango’s in town. Another open air amazing place, facing the ocean. The food was so good- a fish dish that melted in my mouth. But the Caye Lime Pie – oh yeah- pure heaven. What an amazing day.
