I feel like Jane!

What an incredible day! Woke up at the crack of dawn – had a delicious breakfast. Then down the hill to the chimp trekking orientation. There were quite a few groups but we split up and were all off pretty quickly. There were only 8 of us in each group – so that was nice and small.

After about 45 mins of bush wacking (literal bush walking!) we came upon a single chimp in the tree. Our guide knew he was going to take off soon as we could hear others calling him – and as soon as he took off we were on his tail (haha). We followed him for a bit and then he upped a tree and started snacking making the most wonderful food appreciation noises. Soon a female joined him. Then we turned around and there was guy on the ground just watching all of us- he really looked old and wise. We got to watch them all for a good while- then another male joined the group. After a bit of grooming he started hooting and hollering and then took off. After a little looking around our guide figured we weren’t seeing anymore and we headed back.
Back at the lodge our butler (yes each guest house has their own butler), asked us to remove our shoes and we were very confused- they took our shoes and gave us some crocs. We realized they were taking them to clean off any forgein bodies so we don’t transfer to another region of the country.

After lunch and a brief rest we drove to the Bigodi swamp nearby and a guided walk through the swamp -we saw about 5 more species of monkeys and lots or birds. We even saw a group of birders with the hugest cameras ever- the older you the more intereting the birds become!
