Well we have arrived in the Pearl of Africa – Uganda! We left YVR on Feb 9th – flew the 12 hours to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines. I was lucky enough to have the entire row of seats to myself so I slept like a dog by the fire- all curled up! We had a brief stop in Istanbul- long enough to enjoy a turkish coffee (I think they just call it coffee here!) and a baklava. Then we hopped on the plane to Entebbe- this was another 7 hour flight with a touch down in Rwanda to pick up some people. We arrived VERY early in the morning at Entebbe airport. Thank goodness our guide from Wolf was there as we didn’t have the wherewithal to navigate the customs on our own. Exhausted we drove a short distance to the first hotel of our stay the Karibu Entebbe. We had to book an extra night so we were able to check in at 6am! Straight to bed for a little nap! We woke up a few hours later and wow! The birdsong alone was quite something. A fresh coffee on the stoop and I was in heaven. The weather was gorgeous and our guest house a botanical oasis. Our first adventure was a walk into town because after 20 hours of flying our legs were needing a flex. We saw fruit stores, meat stores, SIM card stalls and some goats and cows on the way. Made it to the botanical gardens on lake Victoria and despite our reluctance we were very glad for the guide who spent 2 hours showing us a ridiculous amount of flowers, trees and birds! What an introduction to this gorgeous country.
