Oahu you are beautiful

August seems like a strange time to leave Vancouver as it is truly the best time of the year, but leave we did. We were Hawaii bound for 10 days. Leaving YVR is always easy, it’s a really amazing airport- off we took at amost 6 hours later we were in Hawaii. We picked up our rental car and off to the North Shore. One thing that has always amazed me is the roadwork and traffic on this island. No matter what time of day you land you are going to sit in that traffic heading west for an hour or so. Once we made the turn off to the North Shore it was smooth sailing. Although a dark and winding road there is not much chance of getting lost. We arrived late Friday night and Ayessha was there to greet us! We checked in and were off to bed straight away- we were pooped.

Saturday was a bright and early morning as wouldn’t you know it, but the garbage pick-up is 6am Saturday! Being on mainland time we were up and eager to head out for the day. A stop at Ted’s Bakery for a coffee and breakie sandwich is always a great treat. We decided to spend our first day chilling at the beach. We walked dwon to Mother’s Beach, marked out our spot and sat. The water was blue, sparkling and divine. The best part about being here in the Summer is the tameness of the waves- you can actually swim or snorkel for hours. Denise did just that- off for a snorkel, she saw a tortoise, fish and the great blue wonder of the ocean. A day a the beach can be tiring and make one very hungry. Off to Kahuku farms for a lunch sandwich, they have vegetarian only, but they do this so well- a great island lunch. Of course one has to finish off this lunch with a shave ice!! After a little downtime we drove to Waimea Falls, there was a summer time concert going on, we bought tickets and found a spot on the lawns. What a wonderful Hawaiian filled evening of music. A must if you are in the area in Summer. A long first day had us in bed early!
